Why do drownings happen?

  • On average 400 people lost their lives to the water.

  • Most drownings happen alone.

  • Not wearing a PFD.

  • Swimming alone.

  • 78% of drowning are male.

  • 81% of drowning happen in lakes ponds rivers oceans.

  • Drowning are often silent and can happen is as little as 10 seconds in one inch of water.

What can you do to help reduce help drownings?

  • Learn to swim.

  • Never swim alone.

  • Wear a PFD.

  • Learn about currents and what you should do if your caught in one.

  • Keep children within arms reach

Lake Swimming Programs

  • Baby Jelly Fish

    This class is your children’s first intro to lake lessons. We work on different types of water movement, getting our faces wet and staying calm in the lesson. We will go over how to fit life jackets & PFD’s, and How to identify the Canadian approved PFDs and why ones you should be being.

    First aid knowledge will be taught Infant choking & CPR, how to recognize secondary drowning (dry drowning). Water Safety Hazards will be highlighted.

    Age 4 months-12 months

    Tiny Turttle

    This class is still parented. We ideally need the children to be walking to meet all water criteria for the level, however this is not required to join the class. We will build on the skills learnt in the baby jellyfish level. First aid knowledge will be taught Child choking & CPR, how to recognize secondary drowning (dry drowning). By the end of this level your child will be comfortable practicing the skills with the instructor and parent. 12 months 2 years

  • Little Minnow

    At this level it will be your child's first time participating in swimming classes without a parent. Your child will need to complete three days of full classes without a parent in the water in order to complete the level. We work on front and back floats and introduce proper kicks. Your child will learn the first 3 water safety rules in our swimming program. We have a large focus on building confidence in the water. We ask that parents are prepared to help bring your child into the water.

    Little Frog

    This level your child will be able to join class without the instructor. Front and back floats are further developed. We introduce arm movement in our swim. Your child will know and demonstrate the first four water safety rules in and around water. Children will also continue to build on water safety knowledge and self rescue skills.

    Mini Ogopogo

    This level your child should be able to properly kick and arm movement both front and back. They will be introduced to breathing techniques in the water. And should be able to demonstrate and verbally say the first five water safety rules in our program. Our students are encouraged to challenge themselves, and will maintain safety.

    Ages 3 to 5 Parents not needed in water.

  • Trout

    In this level your child will work on the front and back swims, further developing them. They will work on water safety education and physical standards laid out in this program. Dolphin kicks are introduced at their level.

    Dolphins

    Your child will be working on distance swimming and meeting the goals of physical standards in our program. Whip kick is introduced in this level and dolphin kick can be demonstrated correctly. First aid and water rescue topics are taught in class.

    Rattle Snake

    By rattlesnake your child can complete front, back, whip kick, dolphin kick swims correctly. They will be working on the distance reviewing and learning new first aid topics, building first aid skills and teaching water rescue skills.

    Megalodon

    Megalodon focuses on insurance and water rescue skills students will be given water really that they will work on in their swimming class. Developing and practicing the swimming skills taught in our levels.

    Mermaids

    Mermaid has a huge focus on the next step of lifeguarding and practicing the standards. This class time will be based on students abilities and they will continue to practice the proper stroke corrections. Developing First aid and rescue abilities

    Swimming levels are for age 5-13

  • Home pool bookings avalible seasnally must be booked in office.

    Two private lessons min per booking. Group lessons can we planed as well asking min or five lessons. Call office or email for more information

Other Services

  • We have min booking of two hourse $132.30 per hour.

    You will have two lifeguards.

    Max 30 in the water at one time.

    Aditinal lifeguards avalible will be added $66.30 per hour up to 90 children in the water at one time.

  • We help train aquatic staff, running inseviese.

    5 hours of planing for 4 hours of trainning inservie.

    instructor time will be billed at $60 per hour and travel fees may apply depending on locations.

  • The water safety program was created by Owners Micaela and Devonne. They have incorpeated waterrrr safty trainning and education into fun active lessons. It even has hands on exparements to help re inforce learning.

    This is a wonderful program for schools , we can bring this to the beach or in the gym.

    We need four hours to complete the course. $20 plus GST

    Students will get a ribbon at the end, this course can be broken up into 30min and paired with a lifeguard swim.

  • Our lifguards are avaible for shifts on sight. This is a private booking and will be planed and booked in the office

First Aid Programs

  • TThis is a work safe BC occupational Level 1 Equivalent and can be used in the work place.

    Standard First Aid will cover Basic First Aid, CPR and AED use. This course is for people who need these courses for their employer or you would just like to have more First Aid knowledge on how you can help someone in a life threating emergency, You will have the skills and knowledge to act and help anyone in need of First Aid.

    Full course has no prerequisites the recommended age is 15 years old.

    Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED electronic certification card.

    This certification is valid for 3 years. Custom bookings for this for in hourse trainning avaible will travel in bc.

  • Emergency First Aid is a WorkSafe BC Occupational Level 1 equivalent. This can be used in the workplace. Training Hands on and practice, this basic first aid course will give you confidence to respond effectively in an emergency.

    What will be covered CPR/AED and obstructed airway procedures to respond to adult, child, and infant emergencies. You will also learn to recognize and respond to respiratory and circulatory emergencies. This includes asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, and bleeding. This has no Prerequisites and the recommended age is 13 years old.

    Emergency First Aid with CPR C/AED (OFA Level 1 Equivalent) electronic certification card.

    Certification is valid for 3 years from date of issue.

    This is Infants, Child, Adult CPR

    This course can be brought anywere in bc for a in house training

  • This course will go over how to properly maintain an airway and to administer supplementary oxygen. It teaches how to safely handle an O2 tank, knowledge an assembly of oxygen equipment, selection and how to administer an Oropharyngeal Airway. It covers the delivery of Oxygen devices and the use of a Pulse Oximeter. Also, the appropriate use and how to select a Bag-Valve-Mask.

    This has no Prerequisites and the recommended age is 13 years old.

    Emergency First Aid with CPR C/AED (OFA Level 1 Equivalent) electronic certification card.

    Certification is valid lifetime

  • Basic Life Support training is designed for Health Care Providers such as doctors, nurses, paramedics or those who work in a health care field and require the Health Care Provider CPR-C certification. In addition to all CPR-C level skills, participants are taught how to work as a multi-person team, do simultaneous assessment of breathing and pulse, stand-alone rescue breathing and use bag-valve-masks.

    Certification is valid for 1 year from date of issue.

  • Description goes her Emergency First Aid Child & Residential Care is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace. This program is designed for those working in the childcare, home care or residential care industry. Program length and content meets requirements outlined by the Ministry of Health for child and residential care workers. This course includes CPR-C to prepare candidates to respond to adult, child & infant emergencies.

    no prerequisites recommended: 13 years old.

  • This program is seven hours and is for ages 9-13 years old. Below is a course outline. It focusses on the importance of responsibility and respect while, being accountable for yourself. Swim for life Lessons

  • Parent tot level 1

    Age recommendation: 4-12 months

    This class focuses on structured play in the water. Allows parent and child to interact in water to develop positive water attitudes in water.

    content taught face wet, bubbles and floating with parent support.

    Parent tot level 2

    Age recommendation: 12-24 months

    This class focuses on how to play in water safely. They learn how to enter and exit the water with adults help. children will learn how to blow bubbles.

    content taught face wet, blowing bubbles, floating and kicking skills.

    Parent Tot Level 3

    Age recommendation: 2-3 years Teaches how to get in the water with a PFD. Developing underwater skills opening eyes under water.

    Constant covered opening eyes, start fish floats, pencil floats kicking skills songs and games.

  • Pre-School Level 1

    This class is your child’s first time with out a parent in the water. Children will have fun learning water safety skills using games and songs to help strengthen their water skills.

    Content covered : getting face wet, blowing bubbles, how to float and glide.

    Preschool level 2-3

    Will teach children how to safely jump into chest deep water in a PFD. continue to work and grow their swimming skills using buoyant objects.

    content covered: PFD jumping into chest deep water, submerging skills floats and glides.

    Pre school level 4-5

    Swim to survive skills wearing a PFD front crawl and back crawl and interval training are introduced in this level.

    Constant covered: swim to survive skills, back and front crawl, fitness training, treading water, vertical whip kick. not you would register for swimmer level two once your child has completed this level.

    PARENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED IN THE WATER.

  • Swimmer level 1

    These beginners will become comfortable jumping in the water with and without a PFD. They'll learn how to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath under water. Floats, Glides and kicking skill are introduced.

    Swimmer 2/3

    These swimmers will learn how to dive and will do in-water summersaults and hand stands to develop weight transfer skills. They'll learn swim to survive skills whip kick on back and will further develop they'll front and back crawl.

    Swimmer 4/5

    These swimmers will master dives and swimming in deep water. They’ll further their Swim to survive Skills and start to develop life saving kicks such as egg beater and scissor kick. Brest stroke. Front crawl, and Back Crawl are Further developed. Head-up swims, interval training and a 300m workout develop strength and endurance.

    Swimmer 6

    These swimmers will proficient at deep water skills including stride entries and compact jumps. They'll develop life saving kicks such as egg beater and scissor kick. Breast stroke, front crawl, back crawl are further developed. Head-up swims, interval training and a 300m work out developed strength and endurance.

  • Rookie

    Description goes here The Canadian Swim Patrol (CSP) is a 3-level pre-Bronze award progression that delivers “work hard/play hard” training for skilled swimmers 8-12 years old. Canadian Swim Patrol is designed to take young swimmers beyond the learn-to-swim program and provide them with basic lifesaving skills. Candidates earn recognition for success in content modules (stickers) and for overall award achievement (badges).

    The Rookie, Ranger and Star Patrol programs each have three modules to include Water Proficiency, Recognition & Rescue and First Aid. The CSP program:

    *Allows for integration of the CSP into existing learn-to-swim programs (Swim for Life, Red Cross, I Can Swim and YMCA programs).

    * Provides the swimming, rescue and first aid skills necessary to prepare candidates for success in the Bronze Medal programs.

    * Provides programming for customers such as summer camps or schools in conjunction with school-based swimming programs.

    *Must be able to do the Swim to Survive challenge.*

    Ranger

  • This class is based on each students learning ablities.

    Ideal for students that have not had swimming lessons before and are working on profecting thier skills.

  • If you would like to learn how to swim or you would like to manage your swimming skills. We have adult lessons for you.

  • If you are not good working in larger groups or your child would benifit from one on one lessons, we have classes year round for you. Adapted programs with our experinced swimming instructors will help you or your child reach their goals.

Lifeguard Courses

  • Bronze Medallion, as our flagship certification, teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.

    MIn age 13 or Bronze star Certification

  • Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision.

    The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

    To be employed as an assistant lifeguard, an individual should be a minimum of 15 years of age and hold (at a minimum) a current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross certification and a current Emergency First Aid certification.

    Prerequisites Bronze Medallion

    All Canadian Swim Patrol levels and the Bronze Medal Family are considered lifetime awards, meaning that they do not need to be current to take on-going training (e.g. Bronze Cross does not need to be current to take Lifesaving Instructor or NL Pool). However, if a Bronze award is used for employment (e.g. some jurisdictions use Bronze Cross holders to supervise school groups or camps), the BC & Yukon Branch recommends the award be recertified every 2 years

    Our certified instrutors work with you during your course to help prepar you in teaching on your own.

    By the end of this course you will be able to teach all swim for life courses and swim patrol courses including Swim to survive.

    Valid for 2 years

  • our Instrucotr will help you with obtaining your certification as a LSI instrucotr allowing you to teach the Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion courses. We encurage you to join us for one of our full bronze courses as this gives you a better learning understanding.

British Columbia and Yukon high school students can use Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon certifications for high school graduation requirements. The following certificate credits can be used as credits to graduate high school:

  • Bronze Cross is worth 2 credits for Grade 11.

  • Bronze Cross and Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) are worth 3 credits for Grade 11

  • National Lifeguard Pool option (NL) is worth 2 credits for Grade 12.

Students may only use each credit course for the assigned grades (i.e. students cannot combine both certifications towards one grade). The awards do not need to be current.

If the student has already used Bronze Cross for 2 credits, then completes LSI at a later date, they can replace the 2 credits from Bronze Cross with 3 credits for LSI and Bronze Cross combined.

Students are asked to inform their school counsellor in charge of curriculum that they wish to use these extracurricular courses as part of the “External Credit Program.” Students will be asked to provide proof of their certification card(s).
